Mission Statement
Our mission is to instruct the children of the parish in the beliefs and practices of the Catholic faith and the teachings of Jesus so as to assist parents in their role as the primary teachers of our faith as promised at Baptism.
About our Program
St. Mary's Religious Education program offers instruction in grades K through 10 for children of registered parish members. Our classes are small and are taught at Hart House at various times by volunteer catechists. The religious education calendar runs from September through April and tracks the Farmington Public School calendar.
The Religious Education Program is structured such that the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion are celebrated in grade 2. The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the spring of the student's 10th grade year.
Student preparing for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First communion and Confirmation are required to successfully complete two years of instruction prior to the celebration of these sacraments.
A Home Study curriculum is available at the discretion of the Coordinator of Religious Education. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that the home study curriculum is adhered to and that all required lessons are completed and submitted to the Office of Religious Education in a timely fashion.
Home study is not available in grades 2, 9 or 10.
Registration
Registration for the Religious Education program occurs in May. All students who have successfully completed the previous year's course of study are automatically re-enrolled for the next catechetical year.
Students entering the program for the first time must provide the following:
Completed Religious Education Registration Form
Sacramental Record
Evidence of most recent religious education grade completed.
Home Study students will be re-enrolled in a home study curriculum at the discretion of the Coordinator of Religious Education. Students requiring a change of status from home study to a formal class setting must notify the Office of Religious Education in writing during the registration period.
Students withdrawing from the Religious Education program are asked to notify the Office of Religious Education.
